- Why Visibility is Crucial to the Security of Your Business
Every year businesses have meetings to discuss and develop a budget for the next year. All healthy businesses must choose how much of their resources need to be allocated to which areas. Security in particular is a very important concern in budgeting, because the investment you are making is in protecting your company, your employees, and even your customers. How high a priority is it to protect the people, or the things you value within your company? A greater emphasis on these things will help establish a sense of trust and comfort among your coworkers, as well as your customers. More often than not the security budget discussion is limited to one thing: locks and keys. However this is just one small component to a competent security package. One of the most overlooked areas is visibility: the ability to keep an eye on your property to ensure that it is safe, and the ability to react quickly to security threats, such as break ins or theft. With the recent innovations and technologies available through our cloud based camera systems, the benefit provided to visibility is astronomical. Here are three areas in which visibility can greatly improve the security of your business. Recording: This is the most basic need of every business. When an event like a break in occurs, it is crucial to have footage of the evidence for many reasons, such as assiting the authorities with investigations, and presenting evidence of loss or damage of a propety for insurance purposes. Not only that, but the mere presence of a camera will help to deter many would-be perpetrators from ever commiting a crime. Remote Access: On top of having recorded footage, ensuring your camera has remote access is a tremendous boon to your ability to keep your business safe and secure. You not only want to have a record of what has happened, but you want to be able to pull up the camera footage and see, in real time, what is happening on your property. This is the very definition of visibility: you cannot protect what you cannot see. Event Recognition: Lastly, event recognition is a much more recent but very helpful area within the camera systems industry. Multiple technologies have come into play which will recognize “events” in the camera and react to them. This is implemented in several ways, such as alerts that send out when a specific line or area within the field of view is crossed, or even the pan-to-zoom feature which detects movement and then zooms in on it. This capability in visibility can be the difference between reacting to a break-in attempt before it is successful or after; or in identifying a suspect by getting a focused view of them or their vehicle. These three areas, among many others, provide a myriad of resources which can help us to improve security through visibility. Visibility through camera systems plays a vital role in protecting your business, and therefore should be included in the conversations for next years budget. The question is, how valuable is your business, and the people within? Are you willing to invest the resources to protect them? If so, we’d love for you to meet with one of our Security Professionals for a free evaluation! It’s quick, easy, & convenient to your schedule. Just click here and pick a time that works for you!
- NoDa Break-Ins on the Rise
The business owners and citizens of the NoDa neighborhood in Charlotte are facing a huge dilemma as the rate of break ins have been increasing, with criminals growing bolder in the area. According to reports, the local ice cream shop Popbar was broken into on Monday Aug 19 by two teenagers at approximately 11:25pm. Fox46 wrote that “It took only three minutes for the teens to shatter the front glass door with what appeared to be a cinder block.” The store was equipped with camera footage that they were able to distribute to the police, however there was a lack of footage outside which, among other things, has been a deterrent to investigation attempts. As the article continues, “The store owner] told FOX 46 that construction in the area hasn’t helped the situation. Without the nearby bank there’s no current surveillance outside. More lights eventually will be added to the area to make it more visible at night, she said. Lyons said the ice cream shop will remain closed for the next couple of days.” A few businesses in the NoDa neighborhood recently have been broken into, and thanks to the footage we have from surveillance systems, the same group appears to be involved in several of them. This series of events is very concerning for us as a company in the security industry. The good thing is we have footage in most of these incidents that can greatly assist in identifying the criminals. However, one pattern we have noticed is that outside the stores the camera visibility is minimal, which means that in the event of a break-in police do not have much to go on in tracking down the criminal. If you are a business owner reading this, there is one question you must ask yourself when you read this article: what am I doing to stop this crisis? Do you have cameras outside your business? We must come to the realization that it is not only OUR security that we should consider, but the security of our community. The cameras outside your business can protect your neighbors, and if every business in NoDa invested the time and money into cloud based security cameras, this problem could be resolved! Eagle Eye Cloud Based Camera Systems gives you the value not just of footage, but of real time event tracking, and access from any device. This is the future of the security camera industry, and can be the future of your business as well. Have you considered the costs of repeated break-ins to your business and your community? Have you considered the benefit of immediate and continual access to view your store or office? This rise in crime in NoDa is a dilemma, but a solvable one. We need more businesses to take the first step towards innovation and security, not just for themselves, but for all of us. If you are interested in getting or upgrading your camera system, you can meet with one of our Security Professionals for a free evaluation too! It’s quick, easy, & convenient to your schedule. Just go to locdoc.net/sales and pick a time that works for you!

- 3 Benefits of a Protected Key System
One of the unique identifiers for Loc Doc Security has been the Protected Key Systems we offer through Medeco. Many times in a business, the value of the facility is not reflected in the quality and security of the locks meant to keep them safe. Find out the 3 reasons a Protected Key System can benefit your business. 1) Security of Key Blanks: The first benefit of a Protected Key System is that your keys are patented and restricted. This means that your key provider is the only vendor with access to your key blanks. These are made specifically for your locks and no one else’s, and no other locksmiths can get the information or blanks to your locks. There are some locks that are so common that it is incredibly easy to get a key blank to fit it, as well as make a key that will work it. Not so with a Protected System, to even get a key blank you must go through the vendor. 2) Duplication Control: The second benefit of a Protected Key System is Duplication Control. This is an important point for many reasons; with a standard blank, anyone can walk into a Lowe’s or Home Depot, place the key into a machine, and Voila! a copy of the key to your commercial facility (Yes, even if it says Do Not Duplicate!) is produced. However, with a Protected Key System like Medeco M3, we would only cut keys for you or any one you personally authorize to request keys. 3) Audit Trail: Another benefit of controlling your keys is keeping track of key requests and how many keys have been copied. In your business you may have several people within your organization who needs certain keys. Because we are the only vendor who has access to your key blank, we can also keep track of who requested which key, and how many keys are currently in circulation. When a key is lost or unaccounted for, you can come to us and quickly get an audit trail of who is responsible for the loss or which keys are missing. When you have a security breach, these are 3 areas in which you suffer. We have a team of professionals available to diagnose problems and provide the best custom solution for you. We can help guide you so you make the right choice that fits your needs! If you have any further questions about Protected Key Systems and how to get one set up in your business, schedule a Free Evaluation here.
- Door Closer Slamming? Tips for Adjustment
If you have ever experienced issues with a door closer, you know that it can create a myriad of problems with your commercial or residential home. If your door is slamming too hard, it can cause excessive wear and tear on your door and can lead to injuries as people are getting hit by the door. If your door is not closing hard enough, it can create security issues, as your door is not fully latching when it closes. However, not every door closer issue requires a professional visit. Most door closers have adjustments that can be made with a few basic tools, that can quickly and easily fix the problem you are having before having to pay for a technician to service the door. Here are some quick tips to keep in mind as you make adjustments to your door closer. There are 4 areas that you can adjust on a closer, depending on your model: 1. Back Check (last 5-15 degrees of the door opening) 2. Swing Speed (from an open position to the last 5-15 degrees during closing) 3. Latching Speed (last 5-15 degrees of the door closing) 4. Spring Strength (how much power or resistance the door closer has) Tools Needed: 1. Allen Wrench 2. Screw Driver Before making any adjustments, ensure that the door is closed and the closer is in a “non-operable” function. Once you’ve removed the cover from your closet, locate the adjustment screws you need. You can generally find indicators on the closer that will tell you which adjustment is related to each screw; sometimes there is a diagram on the closer itself to help you identify them. If all else fails, you can consult the manual on the closer for assistance with this. Once you have determined which screws need to be turned for adjustments, turn your allen wrench inside the screw to the right or left as needed. Keep in mind, a little goes a long way; use 1/8th turns to adjust and periodically test the door to check if the adjustment is satisfactory. If you have any other questions, or if your door closer is still giving you problems after adjustments, contact us and we can help provide you with a solution for your problem.

- 5 Questions About Pool Security
5 Most Common Questions About Pool Security Ask the Doc is a new series where we answer commonly asked questions about security. We’ve compiled questions that You have asked and we are working our way through them all to give you the answers! Today we are going over 5 common questions about pool security that can help you protect your community. Let’s get started! 1. What is a Pool Security System? In simple terms, a pool security system is a means of securing the gate or entry point to the pool while also providing access for homeowners and their guests. 2. What is Needed? Another question that we’re frequently asked is ‘What components are needed on a pool security system?’ and ‘What do they do?’. Starting on the inside of the gate is a Panic Shield where a Panic Bar that is Fire & Safety Code Compliant is mounted and a Bar guard which prevents unauthorized activation of the bar from over the top. There is also an electric strike that provides security and a reader to give the user access to the pool. A few other components installed on the exterior of the gate include a perforated metal that prevents reach through as well as a heavy-duty gate closer for positive latching and a heavy-duty continuous hinge to handle all the weight. 3. What About Keypads? We’re often asked if we can install keypads as opposed to card readers and key fobs. The simple answer is yes, however, we don’t recommend this solution because of a lack of audit trails and simply anyone with the code can gain access. 4. How Do I Manage It? Another question that comes from property managers is ‘How do I manage my system?’. This is done using a secure online website to manage your users on an individual basis and issue them fobs for access or a mobile pass that can be used on their personal cell phone. 5. Why Do I Need It? Why do you need a pool security system and what are the benefits? The main benefit of a pool security system is being able to secure your pool while giving owners and their guests access while preventing unauthorized usage. If you have a question about Security, we’d love to help!
