PROTECT YOUR FRONT DOOR FROM KICK IN

STEPS TO PROTECT YOUR FRONT DOOR FROM KICK IN

Often times we focus on increasing coverage of our property or home with cameras, locks, and alarm systems, but we forget some of the most basic items. Your door is the most accessible entry point into your home and the one point that people overlook some of the minor details. During the construction of your home, small screws are usually installed in the frame. These small screws don’t provide adequate support against forced entry from a kick in, pry bar, or battering ram.

HERE ARE A FEW QUICK THINGS TO LOOK FOR:

  1. Check the length of the strike plate screws.

    1. Replacing the strike screws with longer reinforced screws with a higher sheer force

    2. The Deadbolt provides the most strength in protection from forced entry

  2. Check the length of hinge screws.

    1. Replacing the hinge screws with longer reinforced screws with a higher sheer force

  3. Check your deadbolt

    1. Look for loose screws or missing components.

    2. Consider upgrading your construction-grade lock with a heavy-duty lock

      1. Medeco

      2. Mul-t-Lock

  4. Check Glass

    1. If your door or door frame has glass in or around it, consider security film to reduce glass shattering.
